Dr. Véronique Thouvenot, the director of the WeObservatory and one of the co-founders of Zero Mothers Die, has recently spent an entire week attending numerous events in NY dedicated to global health challenges, mHealth and Women’s health (see previous post).

Launching UniversalNurse Speaker – New Translation Tool for Nurses for Patient Communication

3918078_origUniversalNurse Speaker was launched at the 2014 Medetel Conference on Telemedicine and eHealth

 

UniversalNurse Speaker is a new translation tool to facilitate multilingual healthcare communication between Nurses and Patients who don’t speak the same language. The tool is tailored to support Nurses in communicating with patients in different languages.

UniversalNurse Speaker was launched by Dr. Jordi Serrano Pons at the Special Session on Women at MedeTel, hosted by the Women Observatory for eHealth (WeObservatory) and the ISfTeH’s Working Group on Women. MedeTel is the International eHealth, Telemedicine and Health ICT Forum, an official event of the International Society for Telemedicine & eHealth (ISfTeH).

Thirteen presentations were made during the session, covering various aspects of eHealth and Telemedicine in diverse contexts, to address the health needs of women in underserved areas, through big data solutions, use of social media, education and research, multilingualism and connected platforms. “El mercado de la mHealth está en constante crecimiento y genera un interés cada vez mayor por parte de los diferentes agentes vinculados al ámbito de la salud, así como de la sociedad en general. En los últimos años se han presentado numerosas publicaciones sobre la realidad de este sector, algunas de las cuales reflejamos en este trabajo. Este informe no pretende competir con las mismas, sino hacer una llamada de atención sobre la situación de la salud móvil en el mercado hispanohablante, aportando una selección de las apps en español que destacan por su calidad, utilidad médica y contribución a la mejora de la salud, cuya información se ha recogido hasta el mes de enero de 2014. Pretendemos por lo tanto lanzar un primer instrumento que sirva como espacio de reflexión y acercamiento, con la intención de que quede abierto al diálogo y a la participación futura de un mayor número de agentes y profesionales de la salud.”

Zero Mothers Die Mobile Health Project Presented to Government of Ghana

 

UniversalDoctor is one of the three lead organizations of Zero Mothers Die, a mobile health project launched by a multistakeholder public-private partnership to improve maternal health through the systematic use of information & communication technologies (ICTs) and mobile health. Today, Zero Mothers Die was presented by Jeannine Lemaire, the Project Coordinator, to the Government of Ghana and the UN system in Ghana, in cooperation with UNAIDS Ghana, our key local partner.

This meeting was convened by the Chief Director of the Ministry of Health of Ghana, with representatives from the following agencies in attendance: Office of the First Lady, Ministry of Health (several components, including the Ghana Health Service and the National AIDS Control Program), Ghana AIDS Commission, Ministry of Communication, National Communication Agency, Greater Accra Regional Ministry, Municipality of Accra, Accra Regional Health Service, AirTel Ghana, UNAIDS, WHO, UNICEF, UNAIDS-Geneva and Partners.

 

Ghana has been chosen as the first implementation country for Zero Mothers Die project, with the support of the Ministry of Health and Office of the First Lady. To find out more about the project, download the full project document.
